Your motor makes a grinding, clicking, or rattling noise — especially under load or climbing hills. This typically indicates internal motor bearing wear or a damaged connector.
Lift the rear wheel off the ground (use a bike stand or flip the bike). Spin the rear wheel by hand slowly. Listen carefully:
Check the motor wire connector at the rear dropout. Look for:
Damaged connectors can cause the motor to run erratically, producing unusual sounds.
If the connector shows heat damage, replace the motor extension cable first. This is significantly cheaper than a full motor replacement and resolves the issue in many cases.
If the spin test confirms internal grinding and the connector looks fine, the motor assembly needs replacement. Contact support with your serial number — we'll ship the correct motor for your specific model.
⚠️ Warning: If you see melted or burned wires at the motor connector, also inspect the controller for secondary damage. A short in the motor wire can damage the controller too.
Bikes most affected: Shred, Boar Hunter, Boar Explorer, Quad
